Pastor Nelson has served as a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for 15 years. He is a native of Puerto Rico and has served congregations in Puerto Rico and New Jersey.  He has a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and prior to entering the seminary Pastor worked as a mechanical engineer in Puerto Rico for the Motorola Corporation.   Pastor Nelson is married to Fabiola who is a dentist and together they have two children. 

Regarding preaching and worship: “Worship is a fiesta (a celebration). We celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ over all the idols of death that hinder and subjugate humanity. Preaching and worship are means through which the Spirit of god gives us faith and hope in God’s unconditional love for us and for all creation.”

Dreams for the ELCA: I dream of an ELCA that is diverse, prophetic, and thriving with ministries among the poor and the oppressed of this nation and the world. I also hope for intentional development and investment for the raising of leaders of color, women, and other oppressed minorities.” “I participate in several synodical committees, immigration, LGBTQ, and anti-racism. Moreover, I have also taught through the Synod’s Diakonia Program in Spanish and will teach again this fall.
